Abstract Movie

We are going to watch a documentary about a graphic designer so you have some more insight inside what it means to be a graphic designer. You will be writing reflections throughout the movie. Any remaining time will be used for the extra credit project.

Chose your own destiny today! You either need to be working to turn your portfolio in today, which is due today, or working on the extra credit project below.

Portfolio Website ~ Design Stage

Continue to work on your designs and finalize your GD1 gallery page. Check that you have correct titles for your designs. If you complete this, add descriptions and continue to revise and improve the website. Make sure you submit your website URL on top of the rubric and turn in the rubric correctly. 

 

Agenda:

1. Class setup of URL

3. Removed unneeded elements like social media or contact forms.

Tuesday 11/12

Cubee Characters ~ Build Stage 
Continue to build your design and then get these turned in at the end of class. Once you are done with your cubees, turn them in on the front table and then work on revising your portfolios.

Friday 11/8

Cubee Characters ~ Build Stage 

Continue to build your cubees. Take your time to cut these very neatly with the Xacto knife and scissors paying attention to details. You will need to turn these in next class. Remember, your professionalism grade is worth 5% of your Cubee grade and these will be graded on professionalism.

Cubee Characters ~ Build Stage 

You will spend today cutting and building your cubees. Take your time to cut these very neatly with a Xacto knife and scissors. BE CAREFUL TO NOT CUT YOURSELF! You will also need to be careful while folding the tabs. You shouldn’t need to use any tape to put these together. 

 

Mr. Wiant will demonstrate these techniques before you get started.

We will start today by finding a template that you want to use for your portfolio and then you will start to play around with the overall look of your design. We will go over how to setup the navigation of our website today too.

Revise and finalize your designs today. Save your files correctly and upload them by the end of class. And don’t forget to submit the rubric correctly too.

You will continue to work on your designs today and check your paths to ensure you have a clean and professional looking design. We are going to start by getting quick project feedback from a partner. Projects are due next class.

Sugar Skulls ~ Design Stage 

Today you will start your designs. When you start, follow the steps on the Project page and under Design steps to set your files up correctly. Remember, you will use your sketch in Illustrator to create the elements of your design. Do not use stock vector images! We will go over the project rubric before you get started.

Sugar Skulls ~ Brainstorming Stage 
Your sketches and inspiration pieces need to be turned in at the end of class today. Follow the directions on the Assignment page to turn these in correctly. If you complete your sketch before the end of class, you can begin your design. You will first complete the tutorial from last class.

Vector Characters ~ Presentation Stage 

Today you will present your characters to the class. As the presenter you need to:

1. Speak clearly and loudly so the design studio can hear you. 

2. Make eye contact with the design studio. 

3. Explain you design using design vocabulary. 

 

As the audience, you need to:

1. Engage the presenter by asking design related questions. 

2. Give the presenter your full attention.

Vector Characters ~ Finalize Stage

Today you need to complete your designs and revise your characters to finalize your designs. Once you are done revising, consider how you can enhance the background design or add more details to your characters. Search online for helpful tutorials. 

 

Turn in the project correctly by following the directions. Next class you will present your projects to the class.

Vector Characters ~ Finalize Stage 

Your project is due at the end of next class and presentations will be the following class. Presentations are graded, so you must be here. 

Thursday 9/19

Vector Characters ~ Critique Stage 

You will be partnering up with two other designers and will be using the Feedback Protocol Forms to catch notes and ideas. After the feedback, you will write a reflection and then continue to revise your characters to finalize them and to start your backgrounds.

Tuesday 9/17

Vector Character ~ Design Stage 

As a reminder, you are required to use the pathfinder tool on this project. Use the cheat sheet you created last class. Remember to work in an efficient manner by copying and pasting similar elements like the eyes. Next class we will be an early critique.

We will start today with a quick refresher demo on how to use the Pathfinder Tool in Illustrator and how to properly place and embed a sketch into Illustrator.

Today you will be presenting your projects to the class. The presentations will be part of your professionalism grade for your project. After presentations, you will start brainstorming for your next project. 

 

Presentations grades will be based on:

1. Did you speak loudly and clearly to The Design Studio? 

2. Did you make eye contact as you present? 

3. Are you able to clearly explain your design concept, skills or tools you used by using correct academic vocabulary?
