We will go over the process for presenting your designs today and the rubrics your peers will be using to grade you. Any remaining time will be spent completing and submitting your final designs according to the directions. 

 

Presentation

You will give a 5 minute presentation that will cover some of the topics that you prepared on your worksheet. However, you must explain how you used socially or culturally responsiveness in your design. This is 25% of your overall grade.

  3. Either share the struggles that you wrote about on your objective or ask at least one question that you may have.

Portfolio Website

Today you will wrap up your portfolios for this year. Make sure you check that you have all of the required items needed. You will not get any more class time to work on these and these are due on Tuesday the 10th. Directions are posted on the Assignment page under the Culture Brainstorming. Make sure you hit publish when you are done at the end of the day. 

If you are done with your portfolio, you then need to either complete your brainstorming or you can move onto your design if your brainstorming is complete. Remember Tuesday you will have peer feedback on the start of your design. If you are not here on time, you may miss it meaning you will lose points on your final project for not using the design cycle.

Everyone should be starting their designs today. You will do this by taking your sketch photo and bringing it into Illustrator to use them as references. Start to create your top sketch and remember that you will be creating multiple logos for your design. At least 5 will need to be created for your 50% progress check, which will be at the end of two more class periods. We will start by getting peer feedback on your brainstorming today.

Portfolio - Deign Cycle

You will add a Design Cycle page, which will showcase your design cycle for one design of your choice. It doesn’t matter if it was for a design this year or last. You will eventually have several of your projects showcased on this page. 

 

Design Cycle Requirements:

1. A new page is created that is titled Design Cycle

2. Included elements are:

  • Project Title

  • A paragraph about what your original goal and what type of inspiration were you using in this design. Look back at what you wrote for your objectives. 

  • Images of your sketch and inspiration pieces. Title these sections so the viewer knows what they are looking at.

  • An image of your final design. 

  • Write a reflection on your final design. Discuss what you like about your design and why, what struggles you may have had in your design and how you created your design.

Illustrator Refresher 

Today you will work on a refresher in Illustrator. Try to make as far as you can​ because this assignment will help you greatly on the next few projects. Mr. Wiant can be reached via email or Remind app if you have any questions. 

Step 1 - Open Illustrator using these directions 

  1. Illustrator updated and we know this can cause issues or take a long time.

  2. Open CreativeCloud. Be patient. 

  3. Once the CreativeCloud app opens, open Illustrator through that. DO NOT open it from your Finder window. This may cause it to freeze. 

  4. If it freezes, force quite Illustrator and CreativeCloud and try again. 

Step 2 - Illustrator Refresher

Follow the directions on the website to create your own characters. This will help you remember illustrator tools and prep you for the upcoming projects. Don't be overly concerned about these looking exactly like the tutorial. The key is to learn these skills and tools. Ask each other for help.

1. Do you speak loudly and clearly to The Design Studio? 

2. Do you make eye contact as you present? 

3. Are you able to clearly explain your design concept, skills or tools you used by using correct academic vocabulary?

Photoshop Selection Tutorial

You will be working through a Photoshop tutorial to learn more about the selection tools. These tools are similar to what you learned last year in Photopea, but are more powerful. If you complete this, you can work on the extension assignments and we will start our first project next class.
